LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

Easter Seals Camp Horizon Leadership programs for youth 16 to 21 years of age offers challenging hands-on experiences in a positive outdoor learning environment. We offer 2 unique programs designed to enhance skills, build character and equip youth with experiences that will last a lifetime and will set them on a path of continued achievement and success.

Leader In Progress
August 9 - August 21, 2010 (14th & 15 off)
Cost for this 2 week program is $650
The Leader In Progress (LIP) is an accessible leadership and adventure program for youth with disabilities or serious illnesses who can not access traditional leadership programs. During the second week of the program the participants have the opportunity to be a mentor to a younger camper during our Between Friends Camp.
The LIP program is ideal for applicants 16 to 21 years of age.
Program Outcomes:
-Development of communication skills through small group presentations and public speaking opportunities
-Development of teamwork and conflict resolution skills through small group work and problem solving
-Development of personal independence through taking responsibility for daily care and needs
-Development of leadership skills through mentoring younger campers
-Strong relationships with peers in leadership group
-Deeper connection with nature through living at camp and going on an off site camping trip at William Watson Lodge.

Counsellor In Training
Session I June 28 - July 17, 2010
Session II July 19 - August 7, 2010
Cost for this 3 week program is $1100
The Counsellor In Training (CIT) program at Easter Seals Camp Horizon is a three week program designed to equip young people with basic training, skills and experience needed to be an effective camp counsellor in a traditional or special needs camp environment. Emphasis is placed on learning more about and working with the special needs populations attending Easter Seals Camp Horizon.

The CIT program is ideal for applicants 16 to 18 years of age. Program Outcomes:
-Development of communication skills through planning and leading all camp activities
-Development of teamwork and conflict resolution skills through small group work and problem solving both at camp and on trip
-Development of leave no trace backcountry camping skills through backcountry hiking trips
-Development of personal independence through taking responsibility for daily care and needs
-Development of leadership skills through mentoring younger campers
-Development of strong relationships with peers in leadership group
-Understanding of Easter Seals Alberta’s mission, and how recreation can be adapted to meet a variety of special needs
-Deeper connection with nature and local ecosystems through living at camp and backcountry hiking trips in Kananaskis
