Programs

Easter Seals Camp Horizon provides unique outdoor recreational programming in a safe, adapted and supportive environment throughout the year.

Our specialized programs allow campers to maximize their potential and experience personal growth and empowerment as a result of success in outdoor pursuit activities. We pride ourselves in providing life-changing experiences to Albertans of all abilities.

Easter Seals Camp Horizon offers residential spring and summer camps for children and adults with special needs. Working closely with our partner organizations, we offer specialized camps with staff to camper ratios of 1:1 to 1:3 depending upon the individual needs of our campers. We take pride in our professional staff and volunteers who are enthusiastic, energetic, responsible and fun.

We also offer an annual Christmas Camp and retreats throughout the year for adults with physical and developmental disabilities.

A camp focused on augmentative communications provides children and their families an opportunity to increase their understanding and implement and expanded use of their child’s communication device.

Easter Seals Camp Horizon is proud to subsidize by 50% the total cost of sending every special needs participant to our programs.

Changing Lives

Easter Seals Camp Horizon gives campers the opportunity to meet others facing similar medical, physical and developmental challenges. Much needed support networks, enhanced self-esteem, encouragement and friendships are the result. All our programs are physically, emotionally and socially therapeutic.

"The benefits of camp can last an entire year. The memories and pictures stay with us. For people with chronic and degenerative disorders, that is very important."

- Baldwin Reichwein, The Huntington’s Disease Resource Centre

Did You Know Part 1

In 1951 Canadian Mothers began marches such as one led by Canada’s first female Cabinet Minister, Ellen Fairclough, MP for Hamilton West. As a result of their efforts, the research of Dr. Jonas Salk was well funded, creating the historic made-in-Canada cure for polio. Today, Easter Seals Alberta funds vital programs and services for adults with disabilities and special needs.
