A Note to Camper's Parents
As parents of a child with special needs we know that the thought of sending your child to camp for a week can be very daunting. Let us assure you that their week of camp will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your child’s life. They will make friendships that will last a lifetime and get a chance to try things they may have never dreamed possible. For many of our campers, their week at Easter Seals Camp Horizon is their favourite time of year and something that will put a smile on their face for weeks after they have returned home.
We take the responsibility of looking after your child very seriously. We maintain a very low camper to staff ratio to ensure that each camper gets all the care they need. Each year we search the province, the country and the world for the very best staff. Our summer staff are all experts at creating a safe and fun environment for your child. We hire university graduates and students from a variety of related fields including medicine, nursing, education, kinesiology, eco-tourism, recreation, music therapy, social work, and more. Our staff are all united by their desire to work with children with special needs and a love for the outdoors. This passion is evident in every encounter our staff have with your child.
All of the staff at Easter Seals Camp Horizon are trained in first aid and CPR and come to work every day with the goal of giving our campers the very best possible experience.
Please take the time to look through this website and familiarize yourself with the documents available to you. But better yet, pick up the phone and give us a call. The very best person to answer all of your questions is another parent of a child with special needs. Linda Firlotte has been sending her daughter to Camp for years and she just happens to also work for us. As our Office Manager you will find Linda at ext 0 or you can e-mail Linda and she is always more than happy to answer any and all of your questions. She is a wealth of information be it about the camper experience, how to apply for funding assistance or simply where to go to further explore our beautiful surroundings while you’re here. Don’t hesitate to give any of us a call or email, anytime.
We cannot wait to meet you and your child and we look forward to many years of safe and fun camping together!
